In Memorium 04.28.2020

With broken hearts, we share that Fort Greene community leader Dr. Georgianna Glose passed away on Tuesday, April 28 at The Brooklyn Hospital Center. She is known for serving the Fort Greene neighborhood for nearly 40 years.

Dr. Glose was a compassionate and dedicated person whose influence and care was far-reaching in the Fort Greene community. She is most known for founding Fort Greene SNAP and serving as its director for over 24 years. At SNAP, she created programs that focused on literacy, job readiness and placement, support for grandparents who are raising grandchildren, navigating healthcare, and many other social services.

She was also a founding member of the Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project (MARP) in the 1990s and served on its board for over 20 years. Beyond its formation, Dr. Glose continued to serve as a vital leader for our organization, instilling one of our organization’s core values throughout its work: Caring. Through her daily example and leadership, she helped MARP become a community-based organization that took a comprehensive approach to serve not just Myrtle Avenue’s businesses, but its neighbors as well.

She was a tireless advocate and caregiver for our most vulnerable neighbors. She fought for dignity for neighbors living in local shelters and provided clothes, food, and education to so many Fort Greene neighbors. Her legacy will live on through the kindness and compassion she passed on to thousands of neighbors over the decades.

Dr. Glose was also a professor for nearly 30 years and a Sister of St. Dominic of Amityville.
